Wanted: Archivist/listadmin
I've really enjoyed running Level Three, the Smallville all-fic archive and the associated mailing list, but after nearly three years, I think it's time for a change. Therefore, I am looking for someone to replace me as archivist and listadmin by the beginning of February. (I'm posting this now to allow for the distractions of the holiday season.) Running L3 would be a great way to get experience running an active archive and list without having to build the infrastructure or mobilize the social capital the way you'd need to to start a new one. It's a well-trafficked archive, so you'd be providing a real service to the fandom, but I'd estimate that the archivist only has to deal with two or three problems a month. Since L3 is absolutely fic-focused (I designed it that way on purpose), those problems are almost always technical (i.e., helping confused newbies to post, *not* fixing the software, which has run without incident for over a year now) rather than personal.
Qualifications:
(1) Willingness to commit to running the archive/list (and a couple of scripts that provide cross-archive services for SV fandom, which don't require any extra effort on your part after setup) for a year after takeover
(2) Ability to pay the hosting and domain name registration costs (currently, I am on a hosting plan that costs $5/mo., but you would be free to move it somewhere cheaper, if it could handle the traffic, and I believe DNR through godaddy is $8/yr.)
(3) Enough comfort with the Automated Archive software to be able to deal with a lightly-customized version of it if you want to make your own changes
That's it! Please contact me at harriet_spy@yahoo.com if you are interested.
